In April-May, pits of size 45x45x30 cm are dug and filled with a mixture of top soil and compost or well decomposed field manure.

Planting is done during the rainy season starting from June. Seeds should be planted till the collar area for better growth. Cloudy days with light drizzle are considered very favorable for planting.

Organic manure like compost or cow dung should be sprayed at the rate of 5 kg per bale.
